Why Penn Community Bank is Banking on Employee Mentoring
Business Process Owner

In this client session, Penn Community Bank will showcase its Retail Mentoring Program using Cornerstone. The company’s new program has allowed it to measure employees’ skills gaps during their first 30, 60 and 90 days on the job — something they were previously unable to accomplish. The company has moved its paper-based process for its Mentor Program into automated observation checklists and probationary period 30-, 60- and 90-day review tasks. Managers are now completing these tasks in a timely manner, which has positively affected the talent team’s ability to identify skills gaps and implement early prevention techniques. Leaders can now measure the positive impact this approach has had on reducing turnover and increasing retention and the added transparency has created an environment of accountability, honest and open communication, and coachable moments at all levels.

Keynote: The New Leadership Literacies: Thriving in a Future of Extreme Disruption and Distributed Everything

Over the next decade, our world will become more connected than ever before. Anything that can be distributed will be distributed: workforces, organizations, supply webs and more. The tired practices of centralized organizations will become brittle in a future where authority is radically decentralized. Rigid hierarchies will give way to liquid structures. Most leaders — and most organizations — aren’t ready for this future. Are you?

Based on his book, “The New Leadership Literacies: Thriving in a Future of Extreme Disruption and Distributed Everything,” noted futurist and distinguished Institute for the Future fellow Bob Johansen will go beyond skills and competencies to propose five new leadership literacies — combinations of disciplines, practices and worldviews — that will be needed to thrive in a world of increasing volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity.

Cross-Module Coordination: An Essential Step for a Successful Implementation
New Client/Prospective Client

A critical step for a successful multi-module deployment is the coordination of resources, requirements and expectations around features that span multiple functional areas. Are the skills you are emphasizing in a job posting different from the skills you are asking your existing workforce to develop? Are the competencies assessed during the performance process tied to development items in your learning catalog? Do the teams that manage recruiting, performance, learning and other HR functions in your organization work together today? During this session, we’ll explore these questions and highlight areas that require cross-module coordination, as well as provide tips for creating a framework to help navigate these areas during implementation and beyond.

Horace Mann's Non-Traditional Use of Learning and Performance Tools
Administrator

Insurance companies face extreme competition for sales talent. Last year, Horace Mann created a holistic 12-month training program designed to attract and retain new agents (non-employees) nationwide. Leadership desired one tool to access training, easily create and track weekly tasks, monitor competencies and skills, survey users, and display progress and report visibility. In this session, you’ll learn how goals function as weekly checklists, observation checklists track competencies and skills, evaluations act as surveys, tests serve in place of traditional pre- and post-evaluations and all stakeholders keep informed with at-a-glance dashboards. Results show a training push to pull mindset change, increased learning engagement and the ability to predict candidate performance.

Gender Pay Equity: How to Consciously Uncover Unconscious Bias
Business Process Owner

Consider this: less than 15 percent of American men are over six feet tall, yet almost 60 percent of CEOs are over six feet tall. Judgments are unconscious, biased or otherwise. We are not consciously aware of making them and we are not aware of how they influence our decisions, feelings or behavior. Unconscious bias in decisions is also not necessarily evidence that a person is biased, but they have extended into our employment practices for years and, consequently, gender pay equity continues despite talent leaders’ best effort to adapt and address this issue. They are also not removed by good intentions, so we must become conscious. In this session, you’ll learn how to: accept that the brain uses these techniques and understand when it happens; recognize and address the types of bias in a conscious way; understand that the process is continuous within an organization and what to do about it.

The New Leadership Literacies

Bob Johansen

Bob Johansen

Distinguished Fellow
Institute for the Future

Understanding what motivates and drives millennials;
Understanding how to communicate with millennials;
Knowing when a millennial is worth investing in;
Changing the way you view all generations.
